OneTrust, the fast-growing Atlanta-based “unicorn” providing data privacy management software, is acquiring Berlin-based Planetly, a tech startup that helps companies manage track and manage their carbon emissions.

With the goal of fueling the “carbon-neutral economy,” the firm hopes to make it easier for firms to gauge their progress toward carbon-reduction goals.

Planetly has been active just since 2020 but has already racked up deals with more than 170 customers, including large German firms like BMW and HelloFresh, reportedly having raised nearly 8 million euros to get the technology off the ground.

The announcement comes on the heels of the COP26 United Nations climate summit in Glasgow, during which world leaders promised urgent action on multiple fronts to tame rising temperatures and combat climate change. Companies have been undertaking more serious climate pledges, but Planetly says that tracking progress has not been easy.

“OneTrust gives us the opportunity to bring our purpose of helping companies reduce their emissions to a global scale overnight,” said Anna Alex, chief customer officer and founder at Planetly.

OneTrust, flush with capital after raising hundreds of millions in the past two years to become one of the country’s fastest-growing companies, believes Planetly will help companies integrate sustainability data into their existing data privacy, ESG initiatives and ethics procedures, making it easier to track progress on interrelated goals in one place.

The platform includes carbon management tools for specific industries like e-commerce, logistics and more, as well as real-time carbon footprint analysis, sustainability research and integration with leading global frameworks to aid in standardizing data and reporting.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
