There are several data protection laws in effect or making their way through the legislative process in the APAC region, many of which are titled Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). The PDPA initialism extends beyond APAC, but for the purpose of this eBook we will compare the laws in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Macau.

Each of these laws has its own unique set of definitions, requirements, and individual rights that are not to be confused. For example, the definition of sensitive personal information is not included in all of the respective laws highlighted in this eBook. And, in the jurisdictions that do define sensitive personal information, the types of information covered by the term varies from country to country. It is also worth noting that the PDPA initialism extends beyond the APAC region and its meaning in the privacy space also varies.
