Organizations use different data platforms for different purposes. As a result, the data estate of almost every enterprise is highly fragmented. However, establishing effective data privacy, security, and governance operations requires a unified and consistent view of sensitive data across the data estate, especially when building data pipelines for AI.
We are pleased to announce our latest collaboration with Microsoft: The inclusion of OneTrust data signals in Microsoft Purview via integration with Microsoft Sentinel data lake.
This partnership in Microsoft Purview Data Security Posture Management (DSPM), announced at Microsoft Ignite, is designed to help organizations see and secure more of their data, wherever it resides. By integrating OneTrust signals into Purview, security teams gain extended visibility into sensitive data across both Microsoft platforms and non-Microsoft platforms like Google Cloud.
This collaboration eliminates blind spots, strengthens risk posture, and simplifies data security operations with a single, streamlined experience.
"The quantity and velocity of data driven by AI creating blind spots for the enterprise," said Vasu Jakkal, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft Security. "Partnering with OneTrust provides our mutual customers broader visibility into sensitive data, and reinforces our approach to security as a team sport."
How it works
Microsoft Purview scans sources across environments such as Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Fabric, classifying data to determine whether sensitive information such as personal identifiers or credit card data is present. OneTrust scans non-Microsoft data sources, such as Google Cloud, to classify data and identify risks such as over-permissioned files.
Purview DSPM will unify insights from existing Purview solutions for Microsoft data sources and insights on non-Microsoft data from OneTrust connectors hosted on Sentinel Content Hub to deliver a comprehensive, actionable view of data security risks — enabling admins to detect, understand, and remediate issues like oversharing or policy gaps directly within the workflow.
Similarly, OneTrust will detect, understand, and remediate privacy risks to ensure the responsible use of data.
What this means for our customers
This partnership enables mutual OneTrust and Microsoft customers to gain extended visibility into sensitive data across their data estate and adopt a unified approach to security.
This extends the existing collaboration between the two companies on agentic solutions. Earlier this year, OneTrust announced its Privacy Risk Agent, which integrates with Microsoft Sentinel to close the loop between detection and response.
The closed-loop model enables privacy to scale at the speed of AI. When privacy teams can monitor and respond to data events in real time, organizations gain the assurance they need to advance AI initiatives, making privacy an enabler for data-driven innovation.
